Usually 3 days of Singapore would give you a very tight schedule but since antibiotics and excercise do not go hand in hand we cut our programm down a little bit. Our first night we spent in Marina Bay. Chinese New Year was still ongoing, after all it is a two week celebration, and there were classical chinese concerts for free with a pretty skyline and a waterspectacle in the back. We were surprised by our first singaporian meal since it was cheap and delicious.
Our second day was all about checking out kampung glam with its arabic influences and streetart whereafter we took a quick lunch in little india.
Then I got to my fun part of the day: checking out Orchard road. This is THE shopping street where one mall is next to the other and often connected underground. I must admit that even I was baffeld and overwhelmed by the sheer size and number of malls around. I quickly found a nice place to roam through called Tangs. Afterwards I headed down the street to get a cold drink at a seven eleven. I got my drink there and found myself in one of the worst
rainshower/thunderstorms/pouring rain I had ever experienced. So much water coming down that people had to push (with something looking like a crossover between a windshield wiper and a broom) it out of the walkway of some malls into the street drains. I starting walking from one mall to the other taking underground tunnels and short runs through the rain because I was still determined to make my way through the malls to the next station. Then the connections suddenly stopped and my next move would have been to cross a traffic light and not be able to see where the next dry spot to stand would have been. No need to say that I lost my umbrella the night before and was too cheap to buy a new one since we would have had to bring it along. Our travels would soon be over and I did not see a need for it anymore. I surrendered to the weather condition when wind arose and the rain started to come from straight ahead rather than from up above. I went back to the station I came from and went back to the hostel. The rain had stopped but I was soaked. I changed for dinner and, of course, just when we were too far to go back the rain started just as sudden as before. Dinner at an indian veggie place was great but I felt a little cold in the airconditioned place and was worried about getting a cold.
Now we get to the best part of Singapore. My day off. We had breakfast together and then both took off to our very own adventures in Singapore. I went for the Zoo and the River Safari next door. I think the pictures will be more powerful than the words but let me tell you this, I finally saw some Pandas, Orang Utans and Komodo dragons.
Pictures will follow. The delay is due to technical difficulties.
Our final day included a roam and lunch at the Mustafa Centre, Chinatown and a last visit to Marina Bay. We had a cocktail in a fancy skybar (basically in the ship on stilts, I am sure you have seen pictures of this very unique building) and checked out the crazy illuminated alien structures in the gardens of the bay.
Bye, bye Singapore you have found a place in our hearts. There is so much more to explore in this exclusive city.
