Palmtree Paradise

We decided to go self organized to the Mekong Delta. This way we would not have to get up very early and we could spend the night in the delta before going to the floating market. Our plans had changed slightly in the morning from going on a Cu Chi Tunnel tour to visiting the Delta. We did not want to rush and went to the bus station in the early afternoon.

Getting a ticket and on the bus

We arrived late in Can Tho and stayed in a bamboo bungalow in a small resort outside the main town. In the early morning we visited the floating market, saw a rice noodle factory and visited the biggest temple in the Mekong Delta.  Then we went on a crazy journey to our next destination. A hostel on the outskirts of Ben Tre famous for its coconut candy industry.

Our journey included a taxi, a bus, walking, another taxi and a tuktuk. It was exciting but not very enjoyable since we were told we could just hop on a bus to Ben Tre. The location was worth the trouble getting there. Surrounded by coconut trees, bananas, pomelo trees and other tropical plants we stayed in paradise. There were even fireflies in the trees by the river. The next morning we were reassured while taking the free bicycles for a ride through the coconut plantations. It was a fabulous trip.
