Hanoi is a vibrant city, that is how most guide books begin their Hanoi chapter. Our first impression on the town is nice. The airport shuttle minibus takes us to the hostel on a very new road, everyone drives respectfully. In old town it seems a little more busy and we can get some pho at a street corner. Then we leave for Bai Tu Long bay and come back with a totally different view on this city. While spending a little more time here, we realize that this place is actually loud, noisy, in your face and has the craziest traffic we have seen so far. At first glance we thought this is just another asian city but it is more.

Do not get me wrong. We had a spectacular time in Hanoi. We strolled through old town, took a walk along the lake, saw the french quarter and the womens museum. We went to a temple with a courtyard used for recreational purposes like badminton. Young and old were playing and enjoying the last hours of the day. We also went to the literature temple which is a wonderful complex consisting of 5 courtyards and nice old architecture. Let me tell you, this is a vibrant city.

I wonder if there has ever been someone who thought, oh look, fresh fruit for free!?
