A small little town close to the border of Thailand and Laos. From here you can go north and have an adventure in a Lao National Park and the mountain villages, you can go on the gibbon experience and comming from Thailand you can get on a bus or boat to Luang Prabang. We had a day to relax here, then went on the gibbon experience and the day afterwards took a boat to LP. We can most definately recommend the Little Hostel run by two wonderful women Nok and Friska. We hope to meet them again someday as we really enjoyed our stay and talking with them. Come and see for yourself!

There are two more things we recommend while you stay in this small town, soup and temple. Let me explain. Once you walk down the street past all the guesthouses and restaurants you will notice some tables with food and bowls at the side of the street. We sat down at one of those and had some Lao style chicken noodle soup. It was so good that we came back the next day. I think it makes a great lunch.

SOUP!
Then there is the temple from which you can see a nice sunset over the Mekong river. From 9 am to 6 pm you also get the chance to talk to monks. They want to improve their english and you can talk about home or ask them questions about Laos and Buddhism. We were a bit shy about it but a monk approached us during sunset and it was a real pleasure talking to him. At 6 pm he went to pary and he invited us to join him. So we sat in the back and enjoyed sitting there and listening to the monks chanting. It was a very special moment.

Waiting for sunset
