Our 4 day stop in Hkg was great fun. We hung out with old friends from school. Chris friend works in China right now and my friend was on vacation. It was nice to see some friends from home for a change. We took walks, went for a swim to the beach and enjoyed this crazy settlement between island fun and metropolis. Hongkong seems also to be a great location for shopping and food but my tummy did not think I should enjoy the later. So I enjoyed crackers while others had decent food. It did not make me feel sad but made me wanna come back and enjoy the city to the fullest. And if you ever go to Hkg, get an Octopus card right away. It saves you money and time. It is a card for public transportation but can be also used to pay at 7elevens, the post office and various other places like the peak tram. There you can also go into the fast lane which is where you want to be.
Of course we watched the skyline, went on various ferries and even made it to victoria peak. Next time I will have more time Hkg!
On tuesday we flew to Bangkok to meet friends again. After many weeks of travelling with each other and meeting lots of new people this makes us feel a little like home. But we are not home. In fact, we are in Thailand now and a new chapter of our travel begins. The next morning my mind is still in Hongkong when I realize we are still on the move.
Since we arrived late the night before we start the day slow and our friends guide us around. We just follow and realize why so many people do the same. It is easy. Our program is day filling and gives us a nice impression of the city. We walk, take a big boat, walk up to a temple called Golden Mount, take a small boat, walk some more on a skywalk and take the metro. To finish off our very hot and humid first day we have dinner just around the corner of the hostel. New country, new food, we enjoy it.
The next day we accidently sleep in and arrive at the Temples at almost 12. While it was raining throughout the day, the day before, now there was only sunshine. Less humid, but more hot.
Two temples and many bottles of water later we get some streetfood to strengthen body and mind for the walk back to the hostel. It is a very nice walk through the real deal. We walk through a market street alley and soon there are no tourist except us in sight. Chinatown is already fairly quiet when we pass it.
Now we are in the train to Chiang Mai to meet with our friends again. They have been to Ayutthaya while we enjoyed our second day of Bkk and probably have a lot to tell us about. The train is a day train and we can enjoy the passing landscapes while we get fed quiet well. Tea and cookies for breakfast and rice with fish and water for lunch. We are on the train until 7:30 pm so we will see if there will be more food. I myself enjoy being on a train again. Chris cannot get comfortable but maybe it is just not his day.
There is more food! But we are still happy about the papaya, cucumbers and other small snacks that we brought along. It is a long day on the train but I guess we are used to train rides by now.
