Maybe you would not call this a break since we are still in China but for us it felt like it. We stayed 5 nights in one place in a room to ourselves with a private bathroom. The only sad part is that the cool weather seems to be following us. Last week was 28°C here, now we are down to 18°C.
At our arrival we were a little buffeled since the location was further away from town than we thought. There is actually a mountain between the town of Yangshuo and our small village. But it turnes out to be the best choice we could have made. The staff is super nice and the village is very quiet. So after we have breakfast, we just stay at the hostel most of the day and read, sleep and enjoy the view. In the evening we take bicycles and head over to west street with all its reastaurants, shops and bars and find something to eat.
The next day starts slow as well. But later we cycle to moon hill to hike. And on top of the mountain we meet a new friend from Xi’an again. Afterwards we head over to Golden Water Cave. A place we would recommend to everyone travelling here. You start out with a guided tour through a colorful lit stalactite cave, then you can take a mud bath and after washing the mud off you can relax in the hotsprings. If you are up for shopping souvenirs, you will get that opportunity more than once during your stay but do not feel obliged to buy something.
And then there is the food! Maybe we did this trip just because we love the variety of food that comes along and we might even turn this into a food blog by accident. I hope no one minds. We would possibly rename it: souls of our fruits. Pomelos, kumquats, khaki, clemetines, they all grow in this mild climate. And well, we did visit a cooking class and learned how to cook steamed stuffed vegetables, kung pao chicken, beer fish and some more fried vegetables. It was delicious and we had a good teacher. It is also really exciting because cooking with a wok is really fast once everything is cut.

Too cold for me
On our last full day in mainland China, we took the picture book provided by the hostel and a map to go on a less touristy and quiet exciting bicycle ride through the mountains and valleys of this region. The weather improved as well with 24°C and blue skies that encouraged a sunburn.
We were the last guests of Cosy garden until the new season starts. It is well worth the extra few minutes to get out of town and stay here. Now we are off to our next destination: the crazy big area of Hongkong.
