We had a plan. We had two nights in Nanjing and three nights in Shanghai. And then we got a cold.
On our first day in Nanjing we felt a little exhausted but we had been on the night train. We dismissed it and started our sightseeing programm. First of all we visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall. It is informative and leaves an impression on you.
Afterwards we strolled through the district Fuzimao, visited the Confucius temple and while dusk approached and the illumination began we wandered off to the city wall and a supposedly interesting gate. The gate was quiet impressive but closed off since there was some kind of celebration/party/ball. So we went back to the temple area. One took pictures and the other one went shopping. Take a guess!
The next day Chris stayed at the hostel and I went for a walk at Xuawu lake park in the afternoon and got some tea in a chinese pharmacy on the way back. Chris was feeling better. He went to get some dinner in a chinese fast food place. We had dinner in bed and failed on trying to watch some online entertainement since youtube and many other websites were not an option. We surrendered and read our books.
I particuliarly enjoyed the rose garden
We skipped Souzhou even though this was on our original agenda and went straight to Shanghai the next day. Our hostel in Shanghai was not as nice to hang out at but located quiet good. The next days we took it slow and enjoyed Shanghai. Chris went running with the Nike Run Club Shanghai. We walked down Nanjing Road to the Bund. We saw the Bund during various day and night times and visibility. The Typhoon was late so we had a great variety of rain throughput the days, covering drops so little you hardly feel to pouring waterfalls. We tried to avoid the puddles but at the end of each each day we were soaked anyways and nothing dried in the humid surrounding of our small room.
My recommendation for rainy days in Shanghai definately would include the Shanghai Museum which is free of charge and the Museum located in the basement of the Pearl Tower which was only 35 rmb. It gives you a nice impression on the old Shanghai. We decided that the Pearl Tower viewing platform was not worth it on a day where you could not spot it from down below. This was a good decision.

Taking a break from the rain at the Disney store. A Yoda pillow Chris got himself. The force is with us now.
One of the best experiences we had in Shanghai was reconnecting with a friend from lake Baikal. We got introduced to Sizchuan hot pot and had an awesome evening.
On our departure day, we went for contrasts. Firstly we walked through the Yu gardens with old pavillions and ponds. After this dive into history we went to Pudong and visited the Shanghai World Financial Center or bottle opener, as you wish. There we went to the 100 century bar of the Park Hyatt Hotel to enjoy the view and some delicious cocktails.

The same day we took our last nighttrain to Guilin. Gladly we took it slow the past days, cured our colds and are now fit and ready for the upcoming adventures.
