Our first flight together was on wednesday from Frankfurt to Riga. We had the clever idea to save some money….this led to staying 8 hours at the riga airport. So we had one very unspectacular night in Riga. At 7:30 am we were more than ready to board the plane to Petersburg.
This is our cute plane.
Very tired, we made our way from the airport by bus, metro and walking to the hostel we had booked through booking.com. The staff was very nice and helpful and we enjoy our stay there. At breakfast this morning we might have been the only foreigners.
Anyways, yesterday we strolled around the main sights and were informed about their history by a dear friend of chris‘ family. Later in the afternoon, my sister arrived and we climed the stairs of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Afterwards we had a craft beer and borschd (beet soup).
Today we visited the glorious eremitage for many hours with all the gold and marble, tile and wooden floors and painted ceilings and lets not forget all the art from many centuries that can be seen. We did indeed need a break in between with a russian hotdog ordered by pointing on pictures and a hot chocolate that reminded us more of chocolate pudding. It was delicious but we ate it with a spoon.
Later we found some souvenirs next to this pretty cathedral.
This city has a lot to offer and we try to see as much as possible. My phone keeps telling me how much I „work out“ since we walk around a lot.
This is how we feel and guess what…this painting is called „After the walk“.
